Routine maintenance recommended by Williams

In addition to the periodic schedule, Williams recommends, in particular:

  • washing the tender regularly with fresh water to remove salt deposits;
  • checking the engine oil level;
  • checking the coolant level;
  • flushing the open cooling circuit;
  • greasing the control cables at the console and propulsion unit ends;
  • checking the bilge for water, oil or fuel;
  • regularly checking the condition of the anodes;
  • regularly checking the tube pressure.

After use in salt water

Flushing is particularly important after use at sea. In particular:

  • rinse the tender with fresh water;
  • carry out the engine-flushing procedure;
  • rinse the jet unit and propulsion area;
  • check the intake grate;
  • check the condition of the anodes;
  • inspect the engine compartment;
  • check the electrical connections and look for signs of corrosion.

Intensive use or use in a tropical environment may require shorter maintenance intervals. Follow the procedure in your manual; also see our engine flushing guide.

Common parts for the WILLIAMS SportJet 520 – Rotax 1630

OEM part numbers identify the parts being replaced; they do not automatically indicate genuine parts. Click a “Buy” thumbnail to add one item to your cart and open the cart. If you need to select a version or pack, the “Choose version” thumbnail opens the product page. Names and part numbers link to their respective product pages.

Check each part number against the engine parts catalogue for your supercharged 1630, particularly for seals, valves, the stator and internal parts. Do not substitute a 1503 part for a 1630 part based solely on the tender model name. iNR components apply only to tenders equipped with this option; engine rebuild parts in the second table require specific verification against the installed engine configuration.

Common problems with the WILLIAMS SportJet 520 – Rotax 1630

The following symptoms can have several causes. These clues guide checks, without replacing a diagnosis or automatically justifying the replacement of a part. Work on fuel, electricity, supercharging, and moving parts must comply with the manual and be entrusted to a professional when necessary. (FMT)

  • The engine does not start: battery, voltage during starting, battery disconnect, safety circuit breaker, fuses, relays, fuel supply, spark plugs, coils, injectors, or sensors may be affected.
  • Engine misfires: methodically check the ignition, fuel supply, sensors, wiring, and compression before replacing a part.
  • Lack of power: injection, ignition, cooling, electronic limitation, or propulsion block may be at fault. On this supercharged 230 HP version, the diagnosis must also take into account the compressor and the supercharging circuit, A clogged water intake, damaged turbine, or excessive play can also reduce thrust.
  • Fault code display: the code identifies a detected anomaly, but does not prove on its own that a part must be replaced.

To guide checks, consult our list of Williams and Rotax fault codes and our Rotax fault code guide. Stop the engine and prevent any restart before inspecting the water intake or the propulsion block.
